Aircraft Crew Seat
Goodrich Aerospace (now Collins Aerospace) was competing to become the crew seat manufacturer for the Airbus A380. Our consultancy was tasked to enhance the crew seating's industrial design to push an innovative look for the biggest and boldest airliner in the world. Certain dimensional constraints had to be adhered to for maintaining DFM tooling requirements that would keep the manufacturing costs competitive. The contemporary design of airline crew seats in the industry were angular and utilitarian, thus there was plenty of opportunity to add some panache. My primary responsibilities here were the aesthetic concepts, ergonomic research in keeping with IATA/FAA safety standards, and part of the prototype fabrication team. Goodrich won the contract and the seat took off.
